The genus Asplenium is a member of the spleenwort family of ferns (Aspleniaceae) and includes about seven hundred species of ferns. Its botanical name, Asplenium, is derived from the Greek asplènon (spleenwort). Until the Middle Ages, this fern was used as a cure for diseases of the spleen. Asplenium 'Amy', a newly introduced cultivar, is characterised by the cute little 'fingers' at the ends of its fronds |
