Carludovica - Jungle Drum is found growing in Central America and South America. The Indians there have traditionally used its fibres for braiding into all kinds of useful items – a technique that gave the Spaniards living in the New World a bright idea. Because they had trouble tolerating the hot tropical sun, they had the Indians in Cuenca make hats for them. The 'Panama Hat' palm was born in Ecuador! |
