Alocasia

The Alocasia is making a remarkable march from the primeval forest to the living room. All Alocasia species have one thing in common: their highly contrasting veins. The plant goes into a dormant period during the winter at which time they should be given less water and fertiliser until March. Cold and draughts are the greatest threats to a long life. After being watered, an Alocasia sometimes displays what is known as guttation: the appearance of droplets that have been pressed from the veins and show up at the edges of leaves.
