Water management for healthy plants
Sustainability and Water Management: Our Contribution to the Future
The demand for a healthy lifestyle, eco-friendly solutions, social responsibility, and sustainable initiatives continues to grow. As a company, we are committed to growing houseplants in a sustainable and environmentally friendly way. Social responsibility and respect for people and nature are values that we continuously develop further.
Efficient Water Management – A Key Element of Our Philosophy
Water is an essential source of life for plants. One of our main focus areas is the careful use of water. Rainwater is collected on the roof of our greenhouses and directed into water basins through a pipe system. From these rainwater basins, we water our plants in a resource-efficient manner.
Since the early 1990s, we have invested in a closed-loop system to enable us to reuse the water we provide to our plants. In addition to conserving water, we also ensure the efficient use of nutrients dissolved in the water and supplied to our plants.
Plant Nutrition – A Science in Itself
Plants, like humans, require essential nutrients to grow. We regularly analyze the water that flows back from the plants, as not every plant absorbs nutrients in the same proportion. Based on these analyses, we adjust our fertilization strategies accordingly. This way, our plants receive precisely the nutrients they need, and we ensure that the potting soil remains balanced.
Sustainable Fertilization with an Upcycling Approach
The livestock sector faces challenges such as an excess of manure and nitrogen problems, while horticulture aims to reduce its carbon footprint. Our supplier, Van Iperen, has developed an innovative solution to connect these challenges.
In a biogas plant, manure from livestock farming is processed, where ammonium is extracted from the liquid fraction. Bacteria then convert the ammonium into a nitrate solution, which is further concentrated into high-quality potassium nitrate—a valuable fertilizer for horticulture.
This product, GreenSwitch, transforms waste materials into a high-value nitrate fertilizer for our plants. We have been using GreenSwitch for two years now, despite it being more expensive than conventional fertilizers. Our motivation is clear: we want to utilize waste streams effectively and promote sustainable alternatives.
The GreenSwitch production process is nearly CO2-neutral. By using this innovative solution, we significantly reduce our ecological footprint while restoring the nitrogen cycle. Together with Van Iperen, we are working on further sustainable products for plant cultivation.

Hydroponics – Sustainability Meets Design
Water also plays a central role in our Hydroponic Plant Concepts. As growers, we closely observe both plant growth and root development. We want to share this fascinating process with our customers and demonstrate new applications for plants.
Our plants grow in stylish glass containers filled with water, making the roots visible and allowing people to witness the plant’s growth and development. These concepts are not only visually appealing but also exceptionally easy to care for—the plant’s water needs are immediately apparent.
Hydroponics is also a sustainable solution, as plants can continue growing in water for a long time. We offer a Refill Collection, allowing customers to reuse their previously purchased glass containers by simply ordering a new plant or cutting from our webshop.
Plants for a Healthy Home
Plants are not just decorative; they actively contribute to a healthy living environment. With our brand Intenz, we aim to promote awareness of a green and sustainable lifestyle. And last but not least: Plants make people happy!
